"We went slipping silently along, between the green and fragrant banks, with a sense of pleasure and contentment that grew and grew": Mark Twain's A Tramp Abroad
Early printing of Twain's humorous and semi-autobiographical work of travel literature. Octavo, original cloth with gilt titles and vignettes to the spine and front panel, tissue-guarded frontispiece portrait of Twain, with three hundred and twenty-eight illustrations by Walter Francis Brown, True W. Williams, Benjamin Henry Day and William Wallace Denslow. In near fine condition with light rubbing to the extremities.
Composed of a mixture of fictional and autobiographical events, Twain's Tramp Abroad follows the journey of two young men on a journey through central and southern Europe. The book is the fourth of Twain's six travel books published during his lifetime and is often thought to be an unofficial sequel to the first one, The Innocents Abroad.
