"There is nothing I should like better than your grand footman's party - but I don't see any chance of being in London on the 25th": Rare autograph letter signed and entirely in the hand of Virginia Woolf
Rare original letter signed and entirely in the hand of Virginia Woolf. The letter reads, "Dear Lady Jones, (I had hoped we had cut off our titles, but submit) There is nothing I should like better than your grand footman's party - but I don't see any chance of being in London on the 25th. We're trying to avoid London this winter and stick to Rodmell. If you saw what a turmoil we live in here, how all our lives are littered in politics, author lawsuits...so don't tempt me. But later I hope you will...then I (I don't speak for Leonard who is away) willingly succumb. Many thanks ahead. Yours Ever Virginia Woolf." Virginia and her husband Leonard bought Monk's House Cottage in the village of Rodmell in 1919 where the received many fellow English writers and intellectuals including T. S. Eliot, E. M. Forster, Roger Fry and Lytton Strachey. Double matted and framed with a portrait of Woolf. The entire piece measures 17.5 inches by 13.5 inches. Rare and desirable.
One of the most important modernist 20th century authors, British novelist Virginia Woolf became a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device. Woolf became one of the central subjects of the 1970s movement of feminist criticism, and her works have since garnered much attention and widespread commentary for "inspiring feminism", an aspect of her writing that was unheralded earlier. Woolf's best known works include Mrs. Dalloway (1925), To the Lighthouse (1927), The Waves (1931).
