"Love is a good thing, you admit that don't you?": First Edition of J.D. Salinger's Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour; Inscribed by Him
First edition. Octavo, original cloth. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Sam Kline with best wishes J.D. Salinger Windsor, VT May 1, 1965." The recipient was a neighbor and friendly with the author in the 1960s. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with light rubbing and wear. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. Books signed and inscribed by Salinger are rare.
"Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters is written with a dazzling, almost showy, technical brilliance. Its dialogue is expert, its satirical comedy amusing, its style fluid and graceful. There can be no question that J. D. Salinger is a finished literary craftsman" (Orville Prescott, The New York Times).
