First edition of this classic diplomatic history by one of the key architects of the United States' Cold War programs. Octavo, original cloth, top stain red. Association copy, inscribed by the author to Bill Crean, "To Bill and Elizabeth Crean - in affectionate remembrance of their friendship and moral support in Belgrade George Kennan 26/7/63." The recipient, Bill Crean, was a Canadian Diplomat who served as the ambassador to Italy and Yugoslavia. Accompanied by a calling card from the Yugoslav diplomat Jaksa Petric, thanking Crean for the loan of the book. Christmas gift inscription and Bill Crean's signature to the front free endpaper. Near fine in a very good price-clipped dust jacket with paperclip stain to the front free endpaper and title page.
