Donald J. Trump (b. 1946) was sworn in for his second, nonconsecutive term as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025, an inauguration shaped as much by circumstance as by political symbolism. Owing to severe cold, high winds, and snow forecasts, the oath was administered by Chief Justice John Roberts inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda rather than on the West Front, a logistical decision that both constrained public attendance and recalled earlier Cold War–era precedents for weather-disrupted ceremonies. The indoor setting made Trump’s second inauguration the first held inside since Ronald Reagan’s 1985 second inauguration.
