First edition of Twain's classic tale as told by Buffalo Bill's favorite horse, Soldier Boy. Octavo, original illustrated cloth, illustrated by Lucius Hitchcock, tissue-guarded frontispiece. BAL 3500. In near fine condition.
Told, in part, in the voice of Buffalo Bill's favorite horse, Soldier Boy, A Horse's Tale was originally published in two installments in Harpers Magazine in August and September 1906. Clemens wrote the story after receiving a request from actress Minnie Maddern Fiske to assist in her drive against bullfighting and Harper's soon published the story as a 153-page book in October 1907.
