Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to his brother's former housekeeper and signed, "Benedictus PP XVI". In fine condition. Pope Benedict XVI, born Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger, served as the head of the Catholic Church and the sovereign of the Vatican City State from 2005 until his resignation in 2013. A prolific writer, he generally defend traditional Catholic doctrine and values and during his papacy, Benedict XVI advocated a return to fundamental Christian values to counter the increased secularization of many Western countries. He also revived a number of traditions, including elevating the Tridentine Mass to a more prominent position.
