Rare autograph letter signed and entirely in the hand of Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman
Rare autograph letter signed and entirely in the hand of Nobel Prize-winning economist Milton Friedman to his assistant, Gloria Valentine. One page, on Friedman's personal letterhead, the letter reads, "Dear Gloria, I have already stapled & stamped a package to go to you including a full tape. But I want to make an addition to one letter, which is the reason for this note. The letter is one to Paul Volcker. Add a P.S.: P.S. In connection with our discussion... at lunch, I enclose a Newsweek column spelling out in detail my recommendation for its growth. The column I want you to include is that I read in April 24, 1978, & I want you to underline in the first paragraph under the heading The Right Press in the final column, which starts What is the right policy. The sentence begins 'The Fed should'... & ends 'and all subsequent years.' Y M." In fine condition. Rare and desirable, offering a unique glance into the precise and thorough nature of the great economist's mind.
American economist Milton Friedman received the 1976 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his research on consumption analysis, monetary history and theory and the complexity of stabilization policy. He is considered one of the most important economists of the twentieth century. A survey of economists ranked Friedman as the second-most popular economist of the 20th century, following only John Maynard Keynes, and The Economist described him as "the most influential economist of the second half of the 20th century ... possibly of all of it".
